Muhasabah

Bismillah...

Answer these questions (to yourself) and take some time to reflect

How many hours do you spend in front of the television/laptop/phone and how many hours do you spend sitting on the prayer mat?

How many hours do you spend ‘studying’ facebook and how many hours do you spend studying the Quran?

How many hours do you spend daydreaming of worldly things and how many hours do spend reflecting and thinking of Allah’s creations?

How many hours are spent on idle gossip and how many hours are spent sharing knowledge?

How many times have you found fault in others and how many times have you found fault in yourself?

How often do you think of other’s needs first and how many hours do you think of your needs more?

How often do you give sincere praise and how often do you expect praises from others?

How often do you wish and pray for others and how often so you wish and pray for yourself?

If you are able to answer all of these questions honestly, you might just be able to see how much you value your relationship with Allah and with others.

I leave you with an Ayat from the Holy Quran to ponder on, Surah An Nisa ayat 46,

Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful. (4:36)
